Ingredients
1 small wheel brie cheese (200 grams)
1/2 cup walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts or other nut
3/4 cup dried figs or dates, chopped into small pieces
1 - 2 tablespoons liquid or soft creamed honey Note: If you only have hard honey, soften it for a few seconds in the microwave or in a saucepan.
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
Method
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Place the wheel of cheese on an ovenproof pan and put in the oven for 10-15 minutes until heated through and melting slightly, OR place parchment paper on a baking pan to prevent the cheese from sticking, then transfer to a serving plate when it's done).
While the cheese is baking, chop the figs and combine them with the honey and balsamic vinegar.
Chop the nuts and toast in a hot pan at medium-high for a few minutes, turning constantly. Remove the pan from the heat as soon as the nuts begin to darken and pour them into a bowl to prevent burning. Add the fig/honey and balsamic vinegar mixture right away so the honey softens from the heat of the nuts and coats them thoroughly.
When the cheese is soft, remove it from the oven and slip the frying pan onto a hot pad. Wrap a towel around the handle to prevent anyone from burning their hands on it.
Spread the fig/nut/honey mixture on top and, using a butter knife, serve warm or at room temperature with crackers, toasts or baguettes.
